Office Setup Activation Error: How Do I Fix It?

One cannot deny from the fact that Microsoft Office is undoubtedly the most used suite of applications every user has in its system. It is available in a number of versions that are compatible with Windows and Mac both the operating systems. You can also download it on your mobile phone and can access its entire feature anywhere.

Before you use this amazing suite of applications, servers and services, it needs to be download, install and activate. There are chances that you encounter an error during the activation of Microsoft Office. This error could occur due to a number of reasons.

If you haven’t purchased a genuine copy of MS Office, then you will see a message like unlicensed product or non-commercial use in the title bar of the Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint or more. This could disable a number of Office features. To fix this issue, you need to follow the below mentioned steps:

Use the Activation Troubleshooter

  • This troubleshooter can work on Windows PC.
  • Download it right away to fix the issue in Office 2016, Office 365 or individual Office 2016 applications

  • Choose your browser from drop-down menu
  • After downloading, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure the date, time and time zone of your system is correct

Office activation may fail if the date, time and time zone settings are not correct. For this, click on the bottom right corner of the taskbar. You will see the date and time settings there. Correct it immediately!

  1. Run MS Office Setup as administrator

Close all the running applications, then press the start button and open any Office application like Word. Now, right-click the word icon and click run as an administrator and hit yes button.

  1. Update MS Office

Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version of the Office from office.com/setup. If now then update the Office.

  1. Check your firewall settings

If you are using a third-party firewall, then open the manufacturer’s website and temporarily disable the firewall.

  1. Check whether your antivirus software is working properly or not

Try activating Office setup by temporarily turning off your antivirus. It is because the antivirus may stop the activation process to take action on your system.

  1. Check your proxy settings

Do this step if you use your device both at office and home. Turn off the proxy setting and try activating the office setup again.
